Minowa Yoshiji - 箕輪芳二 (b. 1926) - Coxcomb - 鶏頭

Pieces by Minowa-san are rare in the west. This woodblock is held in the MFA with a different name stamp (probably an earlier printing). He was born in Gifu prefecture and studied under Senjin Gōkura. After studies and early success he became a member of the Japan Art Academy and exhibited regularly. In 2011 he was named a local person of cultural merit.

Very good condition (a couple of faint, small spots). Thicker-than-usual, sturdy, artisan, hand-made washi paper was used for this print and it will retain the rich, beautiful pigments for hundreds of years if taken care of properly. This print will look gorgeous in the right frame. Very rare.

Size = 9.15" x 12.75"
