"Carte de la Entree de la Tamise avec les Bancs, Passes, Isles et Costes coprises entre Sandwich et Clay."

A magnificent large sea chart first published by Alexis Jaillot in 1693. The chart was later reissued (c.1760) by the Depot de la Marine, but I believe that edition has a seal and price below the title which my example does not have. I therefore suggest this is the 1693 edition.

The map is tilted with north to the right. The coast extends from Sandwich in Kent on the far left to Clay on the north Norfolk coast, far right. The various inlets are marked, and there is an inset showing in detail the course of the River Thames from the Isle of Grain up to London. The City at that time, of course, was very much smaller, leaving Grenwich, for example, a separate village.

The map is on thick paper. With its handcolouring (original I think), rhumb lines, and compass roses this makes a superb decorative item.

Size: opened out, the sheet measures approx. 95cms x 62cms.
Condition: Centrefold as issued. Fold neatly reinforced on the back. Slight foxing on the back, but the map is in a very good condition. Please study my photographs.

Postage: £10.00 within the UK. £15.00 to Europe, £25.00 to USA etc.
I have other antique maps, books, prints etc. in my ebay shop - please see my other items.
