nice color in some of these pieces, but some are chips or small rough size
92.2 Carats (18,44grams) of Mintabie Opal Rough from south Australia. White and dark base with light color variety in many pieces. The color may not go side to side in these pieces and some are thin semi-crystal or have sandstone layers typical of Mintabie area.
Most of the pieces have thin rough skin or sandstone coating on either side that will need to be cut off to expose colors. However light to very bright color is visible in many of the centers. Please be used to working smaller stones delicate rough. As with most rough, no guarantees that these will cut gems. From the pictures I hope you can see there are some pieces with good potential for small cutting.
The pictures are close ups of the stones under led light shown wet to bring out color potential when polished. The pieces range from 4mm long up to one at approximately 19mm in length, Thickness is as small as 2mm up to 8mm thick. (The ruler in some pictures is in millimeters)
The Mintabie area is being closed to mining so this material will become harder to obtain.
