A genuine antique First Edition Geological Survey map titled top right "No. LXXIX.N.E. (Denbigh)."
The area bordering on Snowdonia, with the tip of Anglesey in the top left hand corner.

A good example of a handcoloured geological map, complete with gold lines for lodes, and white lines for faults.

Geological maps were handcoloured into the 20th century, though the need lessened as colour printing improved. This example is dated in print bottom left "Geological lines published June 1850 & Feb. 1855." The faint embossed Geological Survey stamp at the top suggests the map was prepared in July 1867, making this a genuinely very early example.

The geological series information is coloured onto an Old Series (i.e. 1st edition) Ordnance Survey map dated bottom right 1840. The map itself is full of interesting historical information - lots of industry marked in the Liverpool area (Rope works, etc.), and the docks marked in some detail.
The sea area is uncoloured, but contains further geological information ("Probable Line of Fault", etc.).

Size: the sheet measures 57.5cms x 44cms.
Condition: A little grubby in the margins, with one or two small tears along the top. The map itself also a little grubby, but generally it is in a good condition.

Postage: £7.50 within the UK. £12.00 to Europe, £18.00 to USA etc.
