For sale is a super cool and very rare 1796 Liberty Cap Large Cent graded and certified by NGC as VG Details. The Large Cent is what the original cents looked like all the way up to 1856 when they shrunk them down to what the penny is today. But back then the Large Cent was about the size of a half dollar and almost as heavy, being made of 100% copper. The Liberty Cap Cents are some of the most sought after coins of all the Large Cents because of how early they were from in our country's history and how few they minted. It is so early, in fact, that 1796 is just the 3rd year the U.S. even started minting coins! The Liberty Cap Cents were only minted for three years from 1793 to 1796. In 1796 they only minted a tiny 109,825 total coins. With it being 227 years old who knows how many are left out there!

As you can see from the pics the coin is in very good shape condition. All lettering, the date, and details on the bust on the obverse are nice and clear. NGC gave this coins the "Details" designation due to the coin having some corrosion, and that really is corrosion on the reverse far more than the obverse. Some of the lettering is faded on the reverse due to the corrosion, but a great deal of the lettering is still present on the reverse as well. It is very common for pure copper coins this old to have corrosion to them. The price of the coin is reduced dramatically due to the corrosion, otherwise it would be priced several hundred dollars higher. And being graded and certified by NGC gives the confidence on the coin's authenticity.

Here is your chance to own an amazing rare early U.S. coin at a great price. Thanks!
