Hello, I am selling my (what appears to be) complete in box Sony VAIO PCG-U3 UMPC. I imported it a while back, but found it sitting inside of its box more often than out, so I'm hoping it goes to someone who can get more out of it than me.
The device itself is in pretty good shape, other than the occasional scuff or mark. The screen is bright and looks great. The keyboard and "mouse" work just as they should, and the only immediate issue I could find was that the rubber feet above the screen have completely melted from age. The melted feet appear to be sunken in, however, so they haven't smeared on anything inside the machine thankfully.
The device has its original installation of Windows XP intact, with all of the associated bloatware that you'd expect as a result. Something you should know in advance is that this computer, as far as XP laptops go, is...slow. It's using a weird Transmeta CPU called the Crusoe, which isn't actually x86, it's just pretending to be x86. It does not do a great job. Additionally, the hard drive takes a good while to do its thing in general, so XP ends up kind of sluggish. I'm sure there's a way to mod a CF card in this laptop, I just have no idea how to, nor do I have the desire. So in short, everything works the way it probably did near its release.
The RAM appears to have been upgraded beyond the 256MB built in, but the last time I checked Windows it actually stated that there was quite a bit MORE than 512MB present, which makes absolutely no sense to me but hey. I included a photo of the upgraded RAM for good measure.
As for accessories, the following are included:
- Original Restore Discs (4)
- An additional battery. I haven't tested if either battery can hold a charge off of the plug, but I wouldn't bet on it. Maybe you could mod new cells into the casings. No idea.
- VGA video adapter cable. This allows you to connect the PCG-U3 to an external display.
- Small USB-A to USB-B adapter
- Two spare rubber nubs of some kind. I'm gonna guess that these are for the pointing device?
- Original power cable, along with an extra cable that wraps around itself.
- What appears to be ALL of the original documentation. This includes the start guide, the manual, a bunch of pamphlets that I'll assume are a mixture of ISP ads and addendums, some more Sony product ads, a SEALED copy of Windows XP for OEM machines, and an envelope from the Japanese store Sofmap. The Sofmap envelope contains a couple more pamphlets, what appears to be a warranty card, device stickers, and a VERY faded receipt from the original owner.
- A generic carrying bag. Nice.
As this is a fairly sought after UMPC, I'm trying to be as transparent as possible with this listing. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll send back an answer when I get the chance. Thanks!
