This print features French driver, Thery, on his way to winning the 1905 Gordon Bennett race, the premier international racing event of the time. Each country participating in the race could be represented by only three cars, which must have been entirely manufactured in that country. Thery drove the French Richard-Brasier to victory, shown in this image having just passed one of the Wolseley "Beetles" driven by the Hon. C.S. Rolls, driving as part of the British team.
Noted motorsport artist F. Gordon Crosby compellingly captures the movement and grit of these early racing cars. Print published in the 1946 Autocar The Endless Quest for Speed motor racing portfolio. Printed on a smooth, off-white stock.
Print is in very good vintage condition with some minor rippling along the top edge, some handling dimples in the left border, and a softly bent lower right corner. Measures approximately 12" x 9.5" (31 cm x 25 cm). Printed image measures roughly 9.5" x 6" (25 cm x 15 cm).
