Original unused real photo postcard of Union Steamship Company of New Zealand freighter SS Wairuna in the harbour at Vancouver, BC, Canada in the 1930s.

Wairuna was completed as Schneefels for Deutsche Dampfschifffahrts Geselleschaft Hansa (Bremen) in 1914. That same year she was acquired by Houlder, Middleton & Company (Mitre Shipping Co.) and renamed Gibraltar. She was renamed Polecar the following year. In 1918 she was taken over by The Shipping Controller (WWI). In 1919 she was sold to Union Steamship Company of New Zealand and renamed a final time. On October 30, 1945, Wairuna was loaded with surplus chemical ammunition and scuttled in deep water.
