Original Antique Black Silk Satin Collapsible Victorian Formal Top Hat with Silk Faille Ribbon around Crown. The "Pop-Up" Mechanism on this Hat works fluidly and exactly as it should, an amazing feat after all this time. The interior is lined with Black Silk Moiré and is printed in Gold "Exposition Universelle 1900" which possibly means this hat was sold/purchased at the Paris World's Fair held between April & November, 1900. Below that in gold is a German Patent Number of "D.R.G.M. No. 1777023". I wasn’t able to date the hat from this patent number. Outstanding Condition, the only wear worth noting is at the tips of the grosgrain ribbon as shown & light edge wear to the silk grosgrain at the brim. Size Small, Interior circumf. measures approx. 21", (approx. size 6 3/4 to 7 1/8). Crown Height is 5 3/4", Side to side Brim measures 10 3/8", Front to back brim measures 12 1/2".
