Gary Fisher GEMINI MTB Tandem, updated for 2023

Classic 26" wheeled MTB tandem that I repurposed for a fun with the grand kids street machine. I replaced the fork with a new Surly fork so I could upgrade the front brake to a large disk. I love disc brakes and I feel this is essential on modern tandems.

I have built bikes from the frame up for years and I went overboard for this rarely used tandem. It is just not being used so I offer it here. I spent to much on upgrades so here is a deal for you. Maybe a fun rail trail bike for a couple or maybe you want to teach your kids road riding using a tandem as I did.

First $777 gets this classic fun machine that has fast cushy tires and totally updated this summer!

What is new
    • New Velo Orange alloy handlebar. I like a little sweep back on the bars, and these are my favorite
    • New Surly fork with nearly identical geometry to original
    • 180 mm front rotor
    • 2 Schwalbe Big Apple tires
    • 2 Schwalbe tubes
    • Shimano Deore XT hydraulic disc brake and lever
    • two PAUL Thumbie shift mounts
    • two SILVER gear shifts, mounted on thumbies
    • all new cables and housing, shifters and brakes
    • both bottom brackets had new sealed bearings installed
    • New tail light, steady on or blinking
    • New chains, both timing and the rear
    • Mirracycle mirror
    • Garmin Mount
    • Ritchey stem – I have several lengths and may be able to fit something different if needed. I am the main captain and use a longer stem
    • Ergon grips with mini bar-ends

What is repurposed
    • a Bob built wheel from a previous bike
        ◦ surly sealed bearing hub, bolt on
        ◦ Velocity disc rim
        ◦ DT butted stainless steel spokes
    • Blackburn rear rack

Other specs
    • 53 cm Front seat tube measured from BB center to top of top tube. There is a seat tube protruding up, and that measures from the center of BB to top of extension to be 57.5 cm. I have a 32" inseam and that seat height is set for me in the photo. I generally ride a 56 cm standard bicycle and stand 5' 10" tall.
    • Rear seat tube measures center of BB to top of seat tube at 47.5 cm.
    • I swapped out cranks for shorter 170 mm lengths that are more appropriate for kids and adults under six feet tall for road riding. Sugino cranks are same as original, just a bit shorter.
    • Rear cantilever brakes are original and of the Suntour self-energizing design. I cleaned them up, installed new pads and cables. They are still bedding in, but getting better with use.
