"Grandmothers" by Jack Roberts

Oil, 24" x 30"

Whether it be a scene of a lone cowboy and his cat Blubbertub enjoying a hearty evening meal in a simple cabin, or the shenanigans of bawdy barroom women and trail-weary men in a western saloon, artist Jack Roberts is able to bring great warmth and humor to each of his paintings. As much a trademark as his bold, primitive-impressionistic style and brilliant palette of colors, is Roberts' strict attention to historical authenticity. His paintings not only capture the emotion of each situation, but offer a true depiction of what life was really like in the old West. A native of Oklahoma, Roberts recalls that from his earliest memory he wanted to draw pictures and express his ideas. He studied at Oklahoma University and the Chicago Art Institute, but considers his most important formal art training the two years he spent studying with American artist Harvey Dunn.
