Der erfolglose Videospielentwickler Miles (Daniel Radcliffe) landet zufällig auf der Seite von „Skizm“, einem im Darknet live übertragenen Actionspiel, bei dem die Teilnehmer zu tödlichen Deathmatches antreten. Miles wird zum unfreiwilligen Mitspieler von „Skizm“, bekommt eine automatische Waffe in jede Hand geschraubt und muss gegen die unbesiegbare Kampfmaschine Nix (Samara Weaving) antreten. Doch statt zu kämpfen, tritt Miles lieber die Flucht an. Erst als seine Ex-Freundin Nova (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) entführt wird, ist Miles gezwungen, sich dem Kampf auf Leben und Tod zu stellen.
