Also includes scenes of naval warfare including the battle of July 27, 1778, between the French and English, the battles in 1778 between the Triton and the Warwick, and the battle between the Belle Poule and Arethusa at the Battle of Ushant. Also includes two diagrams of ships of the line, with items numbered for identification in keys, and a compass. The battle between the Belle-Poule and the HMS Arethusa on June 17, 1778, was notable because it marked the beginning of French intervention in the American War of Independence.
