Author:  John Speed (*c. 1551 - † 1629) was the best known English mapmaker of the Stuart period. Speed came to mapmaking late in life, producing his first maps in the 1590s and entering the trade in earnest when he was almost 60 years old.

Description: Fine full color Speed's map of Scotland, from his Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain, first published in 1610. Speed's map is widely regarded as the most decorative early map of Scotland. The present example is the first state, with portraits of James I (the Sixth of Scotland), Queen Anna and their sons.
