Moomin mug Journey is a special edition Moomin mug made by Arabia to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Finnair airline. The Journey Moomin mugs are sold only through selected stores as long as the stock lasts. There will be no additional product batches coming after the initial launch.
The illustration on the Journey Moomin mug is based on Tove Jansson’s story The Exploits of Moominpappa that was originally published in Swedish in 1950. In Tove Jansson’s fourth Moomin novel, Moominpappa narrates his memories of the courageous adventures he had as a young Moomin with his entourage Hodgkins, the Muddler and the Joxter. They travel with the Oshun Oxtra boat, which, in the story, Hodgkins also fixes to fly. When exploring the world, they encounter all kinds of new and exciting things, such as The Groke, Nibblings and Edward the Booble. These adventures in the Journey mug’s illustration describe the feeling of freedom that Finnair has also been able to provide for its customers for the past 100 years.
The Journey Finnair 100th anniversary Moomin mug is the first Moomin mug launched by the new Arabia design team and its illustrator Parvati Pillai who came to replace the recently retired Tove Slotte. The new design team has succeeded wonderfully in creating a special adventurous atmosphere in the mug. The illustration shows Moominpappa with his entourage going through a mystery-filled garden full of surprises to get to the King’s 100th birthday celebration. In the inside of the mug you can find a cute hot air balloon illustration adapted from one of Tove Jansson’s cover illustrations on some of the editions of The Exploits of Moominpappa. On the bottom of the Journey mug, there is the familiar Moomin Arabia stamp. The mug comes in traditional 0.3 litre size and it is sold together with a beautiful gift box.
