A truly charming Victorian mourning locket pendant.

Double sided, it has both its original beveled glasses, deep and characterful that give weight and heft. In solid 9 carat gold throughout, the back locket door is hinged for easy access inside. To the front compartment is a wonderful hair memento in a cross shape, with gold wire highlights, over a textile ground. It's superbly chunky, while the simplicity of its design grips the eye and focuses on the texture of the hair.

To the back is a hair spray design over porcelain, with gold wire and seed pearl highlights, around the initials 'C McD'. It's lovely quality throughout and can be kept as is, or can have its contents changed out if desired.

It's in good overall condition, with some ageing/water ingress visible to the locket contents. It dates to around 1860/70, weighs in at an impressive 14.5 grams and measures 42 x 29 mm overall.
