This lovely antique spectacle case dates to the Victorian era, circa 1850s-80s*, made from papier-mâché with a black lacquer finish and mother of pearl inlay.

Measuring approximately 6.5" x 1 3/8" with a 1/2" center height, it is too small to hold most modern day eyeglasses but is quite nice for storing other things or for display.

The lacquer shows a fair bit of wear, as it so often does on these antique pieces, and underneath it all it is sturdy and solidly constructed. One end hinges open, allowing access to whatever you may choose to keep inside. Its elongated petite size makes it perfect for holding needlework supplies like crochet hooks, tatting shuttles, needle books, and such, or to use as a purse 'necessaire', for corralling those little things that often get lost at the bottom of a bag, like safety pins, fingernail files, tweezers, & hair pins. Of course, it can also be used as a secret place to stash away spare keys or flash drives, or to hold small pieces of jewelry or little love notes ♡

The pictures offer the best description, so please click on them for a closer look, and if you have any questions, I'm always happy to help. Please note the needlework supplies shown in pictures 2 & 3 are shown only for inspiration and are not included with the box. It ships via USPS and will be wrapped with care and mailed within one business day ♡
