BACKSTORY: ABOUT: THE VILLAINS Ska Band

The Villains originated from the UK. They were arrested in the middle of a set by Canadian Immigration on stage at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver Canada. It was their first  impression! Rumour has it the arrest was due to "lack of working visas". Picture the band stepping into a paddy-wagon, dressed in full ska / punk gear, tipping their pork pie hats to the photographers. In 1980 a full band of skins was shocking and the media wasn't familiar with the term “Ska”. They weren’t sure how to describe the Villains' music. Shortly after they legally returned to Canada and went on a ska crusade. The band created a wave and it's sequential "ripple effect" of ska music and non stop dancing fun times. Search YouTube "THE VILLAINS Ska Band" for the evidence.

Setting attendance records and breaking bar sales records at colleges and dance clubs The Villains approached everything with their particular wacky sense of humor. The live shows are legendary because of the unpredictable stage antics which included gaffer taping the sax player to a high chair and shaving his head for an encore. They put the 6 ft 6 in. guitarist on stilts making him tall enough for the lead singer to run between his legs.

Their 1980's legacy included headlining the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver Canada 11 times, selling out the Opera House in Toronto, headlining the world's #1 dance venue the Famous Ritz Ballroom in NYC,  and mesmorizing legions of crazed girating Ska fans from coast to coast. Quote from the band's manager whilst replacing a keyboardist...

"Madness, specials, bad manners, This is a high energy ska dance band that requires radical appearance and strong stage presence. Must be able to skank (dance your a*s off). At one time the Villains were the best live show on the road."

Two of my good friends braved themselves to be their management team. Some time back they passed this super duper swag-o-bilia on to me. Now I pass the "Ska-tch" to you...
