A novelty egg cup featuring a relaxed Sooty with his paws behind his head, propped up in his bed.  The image is in a red frame with Sooty shown in his usual colour with black eyes, ears and mouth against a green, red and black background.   This is in good for an item of this vintage - there is a chip to the back of the piece at the base and a small chip on the front - both shown in the photographs and reflected in the price. The base is stamped 'Keele St Pty Co Ltd.  Reg by Sooty Concessions Ltd No. 743610'.  It stands approximately 2.25 inches [6cm] tall and the internal diameter of the cup itself is a little under 1.5 inches [4cm].

Keele Street Pottery was initially founded in 1915 and specialised in mass-produced earthenware until closure in 1941 under the wartime concentration scheme.  Post-war the company was reactivated and acquired a number of other Staffordshire potteries to form the Keele Street (Pottery) Group - later Staffordshire Potteries.  Their focus moved to tableware including lines of cottage ware and decorative table accessories.  The Keele Street backstamp ceased to be used during the 1960s and later examples of their work were marked as "Staffordshire Potteries Ltd".
