Soap-making & skincare Tallow: Fleurieu Grassfed Beef & Lamb. 400g tubs of beef or lamb tallow, a 50:59 blend or can be custom-blended to suit, on commissioning. Beef tallow and the 50:50 blend is soft at room temperature but hardens when chilled; lamb tallow is hard at room temperature.

The nutrient profile, colour & aromatic properties of grass-fed tallow differs slightly from that of lot-fed animals. The lamb tallow offered is quite bright white, and the beef & blend is warm white. The aroma is faint and readily muted by other ingredients or addition of an essential or fragrance oil. Addition of lye to make a pure tallow soap changes the aroma to a normal soap smell.

The raw fat this tallow has been made from is sourced from small, locally owned butchers who exclusively purchase, process & sell local, pasture-fed sheep and beef meat.

Prepared meticulously, then batch rendered (repeatedly) until premium purity has been achieved, and two dehydration steps are applied to expel non-fat moisture.

The quality of this tallow is excellent, and has been used with great success in soap-making, and is intended to be used in an expanding skincare range by the renderer. Pasture-fed tallow is full of skin-friendly nutrients, it doesn’t block pores, is luxuriously moisturising, and creates a dense, hard and long-lasting bar of natural soap. Capturing and using this resource is another step towards greater efficiency and sustainability.

This premium tallow is not for human consumption. Rigorous hygiene practices during its handcrafting ensure its integrity for use as an ingredient in the manufacture of topical beauty products, but was not in compliance with requirements for the manufacture of products intended for human consumption.
