This is a splendid red bronze paulownia-shaped tsuba. On the surface, there are waves with leaping carp against a backdrop of mountains and sea, while on the reverse side, a high relief depiction of bamboo and a clear stream is carved.
This piece was used by a high-ranking practitioner of Iaido with their own sword.
While copper tsuba may not have the same strength as iron ones, they are admired for their ability to carry intricate designs. Due to its weight, it's also suitable for use as a sword guard for drawing techniques in Iaido.
For those crafting genuine swords or for collectors, this is a truly captivating piece.
