Wax batik-batik (means wax written) is an ancient (over 1,000 years old) form of art where the cloth is sealed with wax –(to stop the absorption of dye) and then the cloth is painted by hand .The waxed area keeps its original colour and when removed the dyed/undyed areas make the pattern. The best effects are the” crackling” effect –when the wax cracks to let small amounts of dye through.
