A Japanese watch brand established in 1995 continues to release collections themed around "Made in Japan," featuring domestically produced movements, materials, production, assembly, and design. At the time of its founding in 1995, watch production within Japan was dwindling due to the influence of factories in China, aiming to reduce costs and supply more items inexpensively. Amidst this backdrop, young enthusiasts from Japanese watch shops and manufacturers conceived the product concept "GSX" with the following objectives:
"Create watches with character"
"Focus on crafting desired watches rather than cost"
"Utilize Japan's delicate design with Japan's delicate technology"
This concept led to the launch of a series starting in the summer of 1997, characterized by "purely domestic production" and "complete original design of GSX," which continues to this day.
This Grand Complication is permanently exhibited in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, and employs the same movement as Shellman's Grand Complication.
Each company's Grand Complication possesses distinctive features. While Shellman's design reflects a more orthodox and traditional awareness of timepieces, even when using the same movement, each company's Grand Complication maintains its unique characteristics. In the case of Shellman, the emphasis is on orthodox and traditional timekeeping, whereas GSX stands out with strong military influences, exemplified by the distinctive inclusion of a unique slide rule. Unlike the elegant and graceful image typically associated with Grand Complications, GSX places a greater emphasis on ruggedness.
Furthermore, GSX, having ceased its operations as a brand in 2020, adds an additional allure as it is not expected to be reissued in the future.
This watch is a Grand Complication featuring the functions of Minute Repeater, Perpetual Calendar, Moon phase, and Split Seconds Chronograph. However, it stands apart from other Grand Complications as it was created in commemoration of the June 18, 2005 release of the movie "Batman Begins".
・The case back is crafted from bronze, while the case is painted black to represent Batman.
・Dial processing featuring vertical flow reminiscent of the Côtes de Genève.
・The Moon phase features the Batman logo and waxes and wanes. It also lights up due to being equipped with Super-LumiNova.
・The crown and case back are adorned with the Batman emblem.
・Limited production of 99 pieces.
The movement of the Grand Complication is engineered by Citizen, specifically designated as the Citizen Quartz Caliber 6770. In December 2024, it underwent a comprehensive servicing by Citizen, ensuring its continued precision and reliability.
