Frenchie's Bar Melrose Louisiana 1940 Vintage Photograph Art Print Poster

ABOUT THE PHOTO: Frenchie's Bar was what they called in the South, a "juke-joint" which featured music, dancing and gambling along with offering things like small grocery items and even gasoline. It was operated by African Americans and catered to the rural workforce in the Black community who were sadly barred from white establishments under Jim Crow laws. ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER: A few years back I discovered this photograph and the work of its Photographer Marion Post Wolcott, and became fascinated with her work. Wolcott worked as a Photographer for the Farm Security Agency which was formed in 1937. The agency was a federal body that provided salaries for photographers who traveled the United States making an historical document of America during the difficult times of the Great Depression of the 1930s. Wolcott worked for the FSA from 1938 until 1942 creating an enormous portfolio which is now a part of the Library of Congress and as such are now part of the Public Domain. Digitally Printed. • Printed with a Matte Finish on Heavy Duty Archival Paper • 220 GSM Heavy Weight Paper • Frame is not included.
