This painting features the iconic USS Constitution, also known as "Old Ironsides". This US Navy ship is the oldest ship still afloat in the entire world, having first set sale in 1797. The Constitution is anchored in the old Charlestown Navy yard and is open year round to visitors. In the early seventies when I was a kid, my Grandfather worked a longshoreman at the Navy yard and my siblings and I would go visit him there whenever he was working long shifts (which was pretty much all the time).
