SMITHS-ENFIELD 8-DAY OAK STRIKING MANTEL CLOCK - 1948 - "THE TENBY"

I am down sizing my clock collection and as a result I offer for sale this 8-day striking mantel clock.  Smiths named all their clocks and this model was called The Tenby.  It was produced for 1 year only - 1948 and is a fairly rare Smiths model.  I have not seen many of these over the years on Ebay.

The clock is finished in a rich oak veneer with a french-polished finish, and a white skeleton chapter ring.  The chapter ring is slightly mis-shapen, it looks like it has been affected by sun or heat at some point in it's long life.  But it is in excellent condition for a 76 year old clock with no notable signs of damage (apart from the chapter ring).  The finish on the case, whilst shiny and very presentable does not seem as glossy as most of my clocks.  It doesn't appear to have been refinished but it's possible.  Having said that it is still a very nice looking clock due to it's relative rarity I hope it will appeal to someone who will give it a new home.  The clock is fitted with the older-style, and much rarer white, finely detailed hands, which also make it stand out.  Please study the photos to verify my description.  The brass bezel is in good condition and is held firmly in place by the clasp. No doubt further layers of polish will help to improve the finish and overall appearance of the clock.

25.5CM WIDE, 21.5CM HIGH and 12CM DEEP.

Due to the age it was manufactured this is officially an "Enfield" clock.  Smiths had already acquired The Enfield Clock Co. but stopped using the brand name in 1949.

The movement is in full working order, keeping good time and striking once on the half hour and then the full hour count on the hour.

It is set in beat for a level surface and if you wish to use the clock on a non-level surface you will need to put the clock in beat.  There are videos on Youtube showing you how to do this. The time-keeping will also probably need to be adjusted when it is in its new home and this is done via a thumbscrew on the pendulum.

The clock will be supplied with a suitable key.

Please study all the photos provided to satisfy yourself regarding the condition of the clock.

The clock has been part of my collection for about 11 years and has been in daily use for most of that time.  I recently removed the movement and re-oiled it with the correct grade of clock oil and it should therefore not need re-oiling for several years to come.

Please note:  this clock has not been professionally overhauled with new springs, bushings etc., and is in original working order.  It has run faultlessly during the 11 years I have owned it and I see no reason why it will not continue to do so for many years to come, but I am unable to provide any guarantee of this.

I pack my clocks extremely well, taking time to protect them sufficiently to ensure that they arrive undamaged.  I use recycled packing materials wherever possible.  The clock will be sent via UPS next-day delivery, and I try to dispatch the day after I receive payment, apart from weekends when I will book collection for Monday.  From experience UPS do tend to deliver the next-day after collection, in most cases, although they do show delivery can be up to 2 days so please allow for this in case there is a small delay in delivery.

Collection is also welcomed.  I am approx. 15 minutes either way, from Bury St. Edmunds (Suffolk) or Diss (Norfolk).

I hope that I have provided an accurate description of the clock, but should you have any questions or require any further photos please do contact me via Ebay messages.
