Victor Vasarely (geb. Gyözö Vásárhelyi) wurde 1906 in Pécs in Ungarn geboren.
Ab 1927 besucht er eine private Zeichenschule in Budapest. Im Folgejahr setzt er seine Ausbildung an der "Mühely" (dt. "Werkstatt") an der in erster Linie das Gedankengut des Bauhauses vermittelt wird, fort. 1930 übersiedelt er nach Paris und arbeitete vorerst als Grafiker.
In dieser Zeit experimentiert Vasarely mit verschiedenen grafischen Mitteln und erforscht ihre optischen und emotionalen Möglichkeiten.
Er entwickelt eine eigenständige geometrische Abstraktion, deren Variationen zu optischen Bildmustern mit kinetischen Effekten führen. In einem Gitterwerk ordnet der Künstler geometrische Formen in leuchtenden Farben so an, dass dabei für das Auge der Eindruck einer fluktuierenden Bewegung entsteht. Vasarely trägt damit wesentlich zur Entstehung der Op-Art bei.
Ab der Mitte der 50er Jahre entwickelt der Künstler in erster Linie Kunst für den öffentlichen Raum.
Für die Olympiade in München 1972 entwirft Vasarely Plakatmotive und das offizielle spiralenförmige Logo.
1976 gründet der Künstler die Fondation Vasarely in Aix-en-Provence, mit deren Hilfe 1981 ein Institut für zeitgenössische Formgestaltung und Architektur eingerichtet wurde. 1976 eröffnete das Vasarely-Museum in seiner Geburtsstadt Pécs, ein zweites folgte 1987 in Schloß Zichy/Budapest.
Victor Vasarely starb 1997 in Paris.

Zustand
Die Grafik ist in sehr gutem Erhaltungszustand. Leichte Oberflächenspuren und -verunreinigungen.
Die Bilder sind so detailreich wie möglich fotografiert. Teilweise sind die Abbildungen stark vergrößert. Der Zustand des Artikels ist am besten auf den Bildern zu sehen. Durch unterschiedliche Farbeinstellungen der Monitore sind geringe Farbabweichungen zum Auktionsgegenstand möglich.

Victor Vasarely was born in 1906 in Pécs, Hungary. In 1927 he attended a private drawing school in Budapest. The year after he continued his education at the Mühely School for Graphic Arts, which arbitrated first and foremost the concept of Bauhaus. In 1930 he emigrated to Paris and worked as a commercial artist where he designed posters.
Beginning in 1944 he dedicated himself solely to painting. In the same year he exhibited his work for the first time in the Denise René Galerie in Paris. Here, his works portrayed chessboards and conflicting patterns as well as figurative motifs. In 1947, Vasarely decided to concentrate on constructively geometric, abstract motifs.
At this time, Vasarely experimented with various graphic media and studied their optic and emotional possibilities. He developed an individual geometric abstraction whose variations led to optical patterns with kinetic effects. Vasarely ordered geometric forms in luminous colours in latticework to make an impression of fluctuating movement on the eye. With this style, he contributed greatly to the emergence of Op Art.
Starting in the mid 1950’s, Vasarely primarily developed art for public areas. For the Olympic Games of 1972 in Munich, he designed poster motifs and the official spiral logo. In the years 1965 and 1967, Vasarely won numerous international art prizes. He participated in documenta I (1955), documenta II (1959), documenta III (1964) as well as documenta IV in 1972 in Kassel. In 1976 he founded the Vasarely Foundation in Aix-en-Provence, with whose help an institute for contemporary design and architecture was established in 1981. Victor Vasarely died in Paris in 1997.

Victor Vasarely est né en 1906 à Pécs, Hongrie. Il est reconnu comme étant le père de l'art optique.
Vasarely commence des études de médecine, qu'il arrête au bout de trois ans. Il s'intéresse alors au Bauhaus et étudie au Műhely de Budapest de 1928 à 1930. En 1932, il s'installe à Paris où il débute comme artiste graphiste dans des agences publicitaires comme Havas, Draeger, Devambez. C'est là qu'il effectue son premier travail majeur, Zebra (1939) considéré aujourd'hui comme le premier travail dans le genre op art.
Pendant les deux décennies suivantes, Vasarely développe son propre modèle d'art abstrait géométrique, travaillant dans divers matériaux, mais employant un nombre minimal de formes et de couleurs. Il travaille aussi pour de nombreuses entreprises et métamorphose en 1972 avec son fils, le plasticien Yvaral (1934-2002), le logo de Renault.
Victor Vasarely est mort en 1997 à Paris.
