This is a gorgeous hand painted Mason’s Ironstone jug dating from around 1830.

The surfaces of this hexagonal jug are decorated with transferware which was then expertly painted in amazing detail.  In this case a pretty bucolic temple is painted surrounded with cherry blossom, flowers and foliage and flying birds in a very attractive palette of blues, bright greens and dark orange tones on a white background.

The inside rim of this pretty jug is bordered with a lovely geometric and spiral design and the pouring handle is moulded in the shape of a dragon decorated with flowers and foliage.

The base of this jug is stamped Mason’s Patent Ironstone China with a crown with the pattern number 1365 added in red ink at the time of manufacture.

The measurements of this Mason’s jug are: height 16 cm, width (at widest point) 14 cm.

The condition of this jug is very good with no visible cracks, chips or crazing.  The exterior white pearly surface has a pretty shine and inside is clean and tidy though there are a couple of small stains to the interior which can only be seen when looking down into the inside of the jug.

This antique jug would look very pretty as part of a collection of Mason’s or other jugs on a dresser or similar and would add a touch of charm to a decorative scheme, especially when filled with a posy of fresh garden flowers.
