Description

Charming vintage sterling silver and enamel guilloche compact mirror. Decorated with orange chrysanthemums on green stems and leaves, against a white/cream colored ground over engine turned radiant sunburst motif. The back with intricate engine turned 'fish scale' design. Opening to reveal a mirror and hinged lid with empty powder well. Inside with a beautifully engraved monogram of interlaced initials HMS. Bearing the marks of the lion passant, Birmingham anchor and date letter Z for 1949. Maker's mark of initials C&N for silversmiths Crisford & Norris Ltd, active 1896-1978, manufacturing and jewelers, Vyse Street, Birmingham. In overall good vintage condition showing general wear commensurate with age and use, no chips or cracks to the enamel. Measures 2 7/8" diameter.
