1984 Press Photo winner Terry Daley at Wisconsin Area Cross Country Ski Run, WI

This is an original press photo. An estimated 500 hardy cross-country skiers schussed, slipped and slid their way over icy trails and challenging hills Saturday in The Milwaukee Journal's second annual Wisconsin Area Cross Country Ski Run at Alpine Valley, The competitive portion of the run - which included a 15-kilometer (9.3 miles) trail for top skiers and a 10-kilometer (6.2 miles) trail for intermediate skiers - was the opening event for the alpine Valley Ski Patrol's free two-day Winter Carnival. Terry Daley of Menomonee Falls won the 15-kilometer race in the men's division with a time of 45 minutes and 19 seconds, 22, is an engineering student at Marquette University.
