Franz Plantenberg, born in Essen-Steele in 1887, studied at the Essen Conservatory and music in Munich (composition, choral singing, piano and orchestra direction). From 1911, Plantenberg initially directed the Recklinghausen male choral society "Eintracht". In 1918 he was appointed municipal music director. He conducted large choral concerts and symphonic orchestral performances. Plantenberg also founded and directed municipal music associations in Buer, Bottrop and Gladbeck. In May 2019 there was an exhibition about him at the Institute for City History Recklinghausen.

The high fee points to the beginning of the inflationary period. The card is with ins. 1.50 marks franked.
The "Totentanz" probably means the opera "Der Totentanz" (world premiere Dessau 1905) by Josef Reiter (1862-1939).
