The USN M-421A summer flight jacket, also known as the "lightweight" or "cruiser" jacket, has its roots in the development of aviation apparel during World War II. In the hot climates of the pacific the standard issue M422 leather flying jackets were not necessarily appropriate, being both hot and uncomfortable. The USN developed the M-421A jacket as a lightweight alternative for pilots operating in warmer climates or during the summer months. This jacket was designed to provide pilots with comfort and breathability during flight, and goes through various iterations well into the 60s.

- Distinctive diamond shaped reinforcements on the sleeves
- Vintage-style Talon zipper with leather puller
- Two front button flap pockets at the waist
