Description

Antique 19th century French sterling silver and cut crystal perfume oil burner differsur, brûle parfum or lampe Berger style. The main body is of thick clear crystal, cut with a spiral motif. Unsigned, but likely Baccarat. Mounted in exquisite French sterling silver also decorated in spiral fluting and rocailles. Removing the pierced lid reveals the metal extinguisher, wick and burner. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. There are some dents to the silver mounts. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, in use from 1838. This mark guaranteed the finest quality French sterling silver of .950/1000 (95% silver and a higher grade than the standard .925 for sterling). Bearing a silversmith’s mark for Antoinette Lagriffont, active from 1896-1899 at 157 rue du Temple, Paris. Measures 7 ¼” height x 3 ¼” wide.
