Art Deco French sterling silver writing / desk set. Comprising of a wax seal and paper knife or letter opener with cut glass blade. Featuring elegant sleek deco styling. The wax seal bearing an engraved matrix with monogram of interlaced initials GV or VG. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, which guaranteed the finest quality French sterling silver of .950/1000 purity in use from 1838 (95% pure silver and higher grade than the standard .925 for sterling). Silversmith mark for Deschamps & Freres active from 1923 at 46 rue du Rocher, Paris. In overall good condition with general wear from use and age. No chips or damage to the glass bade of the paper knife. Housed in the original presentation box. The box measures 11 1/2" length x 4 3/8" width. Wax seal measures 3 1/4" length. Paper knife is 9 7/8" length.
