VTG Hand-Painted Figureral Art Pottery Woman With 4 Butterfly Wings - Signed.

This is very unique, vintage terracotta hand-painted art pottery planter from Mexico, South America or Latin America.

This piece is so different and interesting! It features a woman’s head with hollow rectangular eyes and mouth, a terracotta face, etched coil of dark gray hair, and two sets of beautiful, hand-painted and glazed butterfly wings on her head. It’s not a vase, but it is a vessel of some sort. Because the eyes and mouth are hollowed out, I believe that a candle or light is meant to be placed under the woman’s head for lovely illumination. The carving of the clay is very high-craftsmanship, the hand-made technique quite evident. This piece is a mirror image … each side is the exact same. This is in excellent vintage condition, no chips or cracks. There is an etched marking on one side of her head with the initials, LZ, and a date in the late 1990s. This is just a very cool and quite different piece of art pottery! Measures 7.25” H x 9” W.
