Vintage Hand-Painted Porcelain With Gold Lustreware Swan Flower Frog Japan.

This is a lovely vintage porcelain swan flower frog made in Japan. The swan is beautifully hand-painted with a shiny glaze, a yellow nose, orange beak, and a white body etched to look like feathers. He could be used as a decorative bowl, because the inside part of the swan’s “body” is where you place the removable circular flower frog base. However, flower frogs are all the rage now, especially vintage ones. The inside of the swan is a coppery/tan lustreware, very pretty. You simply place cut stemmed flowers in the holes of the flower frog to make a gorgeous and unique arrangement. The bottom of the swan is rimmed and painted in a bright, royal blue to give the look of him floating in the water. He is in great vintage condition, the only thing I can see are two very tiny “pin pricks” on the top of each side of the swan, but it is not damage, only something that was probably done during the creation of this piece (see last two photos).

This swan flower frog probably dates from the 1950s-60s, and he is 6” length, 5.25” width, and 4” height, and this is marked “Made in Japan “ on the bottom. Just a beautiful piece!
