France (Offices in the Levant) 1870 Turkey Mixed Franking Cover Aleppo

Folded cover, without contents, franked on reverse with 1pi and 20pa Turkish adhesives, tied by Arabic cancel of Aleppo, postmarked with Aleppo (12 Sep) c.d.s., likely carried via camel caravan over the desert to the French Post Office at Alexandretta, where it was postmarked on 13 Oct and franked with 10c bistre and 30c brown 1863 Laureated Napoleon, cancelled with 5079 "Gros Chiffres" and carried onwards to Marseille via the paquebot "S/S Tanais", struck with boxed red "Paquebots / de la / Mediterranee", reverse with Smyrna (17 Oct) and Marseille (24 Oct) c.d.s. backstamps, light wrinkles at lower left, adhesives with some toned perfs, a scarce mixed franking and early use of the coast perforated 20pa Third Duloz issue; ex Cihangir.
