Photos form the description - a rare antique T ASTON Engineer Linear Slide Rule

From a collection of mainly old carpentry tools. This is one of the oldest pieces and has been kept as a collectable rule. The rule actually still has both it's original brass locking pins ! An antique two-foot, two-fold boxwood rule with a brass hinge/arch joint and brass slide caliper and steel end pieces. There is some deterioration of the steel. The brass slide caliper slides in and out with ease. The maker is engraved on the rule as 'T ASTON THE ORIGINAL MAKER'.

Information
This form of slide rule was invented by Joshua Routledge, a seller of iron goods, in 1808 or 1809. He discussed it in the 1813 (4th) edition of Instructions for the Engineer's Improved Sliding Rule. There were two rule makers named Thomas Aston, presumably a father and son, who were in business at various addresses in Birmingham, England, from 1818 to 1862.

A rare collectable for the enthusiasts and serious collectors.
