John Kostelic Pottery Vase California Studio Art Vintage Dogtown Marin County 4 3/8" high

Vintage John Kostelic studio art pottery vase. This large stoneware vase has glazed decoration in shades of rust and brown. This hand thrown piece is approximately 2 13/16" inches in diameter and 4 3/8 inches tall.  It is the same diameter at the top as it is at the bottom (even though in some of the pictures it does not appear to be straight up and down). This vase would be a fine addition to a collection of American studio ceramics.

Identification
This piece is marked beneath, as shown, "Kostelic."  (See picture #7).  It was made by John Kostelic. He had a studio in Marin County, California, called Dogtown Pottery. Per a September 19, 2017 article in Idaho Falls Magazine, Kostelic was inspired by Iron Age art and Celtic design. He was also influenced by the cave paintings of the Chauvet Cave in France. This beautiful vase has very unique markings which seem to mimic the style of those cave paintings in France.  John Kostelic produced pottery for 26 years until he retired and relocated to Idaho in 1996. The exact age of this vintage piece is not known.

Condition
The vase looks very good overall, with no cracks.  Variations in glazing are as made.  Please review the description and photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying.
