VINTAGE AUGUST 1958 ARIZONA HIGHWAYS - BASKETS - RUGS - SAND PAINTING - INDIANS OF ARIZONA - ALL INDIAN ISSUE.

This is such a great magazine and one of those great looking magazines. This Magazine is in very good condition, with very, very slight wear (see pictures). There is slight age discoloration. There is a ding at the right edge (see picture). Does not detract from the beauty of this highly collectible Magazine.

In the article on "Indians of Arizona" there is a map showing the name and location of the tribes, along with a small picture of a member of that tribe. There is also a chart showing the groupings of reservations by agency jurisdiction, the reservation area in acres, the names of the tribe or tribes occupying each reservation, and reservation population (in 1958.)

There are lots of pictures of street scenes, ceremonies, villages, ruins, an Apache Crown Dancer, Apache basket weaving, Hualapai Basket weaving, Pima basket weaving, Papago pottery making, and Navajo sand painting. There is also a chart showing what each month of the year is called by the Navajo. There is information on each tribe. What a great piece of history this is. This whole issue is devoted to the Indians of Arizona.

There is also an article on the famous Hubbell Trading Post in Navajoland, with some great pictures of the Trading Post, the old cars and trucks, and the pawn closet, which provided safe-keeping for the Indian jewelry - often deposited as collateral on short-term loans. There is also a nice picture of the gun rack, loaded with various rifles.

Articles include:

Indians of Arizona

Navajo Sand Paintings

The Hubbell Trading Post At Granada
