Minolta AF Maxxum/Sony Alpha

100mm f/2.8 RS “Restyled” Macro Lens

One of Minolta’s Sharpest & Finest Lenses

Mint Minus Condition

Here is a lens I don’t come across too often. This Minolta 100mm RS macro lens is a real classic – heavy duty build, fantastic optics and true 1:1 image reproduction, plus the modern styling of the second-generation Minolta lenses and subsequent Sony models which this is the predecessor for. Sony of course made the rebadged, RS replacement, and retailed it at $749 US.

This Sony Alpha mount lens will require an adapter for use with E mount camera bodies.

I’d categorize the lens as being in mint minus condition.   (S/N 202032xx). It is in very nice cosmetic condition with just some minor wear to the barrel enamel and focus limiter switch consistent with light, gentle use.

The grip is clean, reconditioned and shows minimal, if any wear. The stainless mount is unmarked and focus limiter switch performs as it should.

Most importantly, the optics are flawless. Crystal clear glass, no fungus/haze, no blemishes or scratches, nada.

The aperture is oil free and snappy. Importantly, the focus action on this lens is smooth and easy.

If you are a fan of vintage Minolta AF lenses and are in the market for a true 100mm Macro, you'll find nothing nicer on eBay than this model lens, especially when you look at the price of a new Sony model.

Both original caps included, in nice condition.

This lens has always been regarded as one of Minolta’s sharpest offerings – not great for portraits, as it is terribly unforgiving in its resolution…but for macro, where you want sharpness and detail, this lens delivers. A variable aperture from f/2.8 to f/32 gives maximum depth of field control and a focus limiter speeds focus.

On the Photozone.de site, users score it 4.6 out of 5 and on Dyxum.com, it receives 4.92 out of 5.
