1940 Press Photo Former New York Governor Al Smith celebrates 67th birthday

This is an original press photo. Celebrating his sixth-seventh birthday with a two-decker cake at his Empire State Building office, Al Smith, 1928 Democratic Presidential candidate endorsed "without qualification" President Roosevelt's Fifteenth Fireside chat and indicated he would even favor the United States entering the European War if Britain faltered. Smith, also recommended that "all these organizations" such as the William Allen White and Verne Marshall committees "pipe down." Photo shows the ex-New York Governor, minus his famous brown derby, with his birthday cake. Photo measures 6.25 x 9.25 inches. Photo is dated 12-30-1940.
