About this picture

Here is a woolwork depicting a scenes of rural life in Madagascar. It was when I recognised the ring-tailed lemur that I realised that it must have been made in Madagascar.
This work came from the estate of Professor Richard (Ritchie) Ovendale (1944-2022) formerly of the Department of International Politics at Abrystwyth University. He was born at Pretoria, South Africa and was the author of more than 100 books and papers. He was a traveller, explorer and collector of art he discovered on his travels.

About the artist

I think that this woolwork lanscape in Madagascar must be extremely unusual. I do not know who made them, but the skill with which the various elements are depicted is very good indeed to my eye.

That being said, I can't insure for damage to the glass or frame.
Usually, If I buy a framed picture at auction, I would expect to have to pay around £50 to someone like Mail Boxes Etc for shipping, but that includes collection, packing and shipping.
Frequently the cost of shipping is nearly as much as the picture itself, but does include a margin for commercial profit.
I do not aim to make a profit on the shipping costs.
