Offering a chalcedony agate Chinese carving of a stylized bat bird with wings outspread.  Age unknown, rather in the style of the Hongshan culture.  Large at 5.5” long by 3.5” high by 1.5” deep and weighs one pound.  Rather heavy for a pendant, but holes for a cord are drilled through the top back.  Also sits firmly as a shelf ornament or paperweight.  Large, about the size of my lady-hand.

Shows curved agate banding and translucency of thinner areas.  (In the main photo, the window screen’s cross-hatching can be seen through the stone.)  In sunlight, this bat glows an amber shade.  In regular light it’s a honey brown with dark green undertones.

Beautifully carved, good balance and symmetry, smooth, polished to a waxy luster.

Shows irregularities of natural agate but no chips, cracks, or damage.  No maker’s mark found.
