SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS/DESCRIPTIVE WORDS: The New Yorker is an American magazine of started as a weekly in 1925 and in production today. The magazine is well known for its illustrated and often topical covers. One of the last (if not the very last) periodicals to continue using actual art (as opposed with photo covers) for their covers.. Over time these covers have themselves become very collectible, being eye-catching and commentary of the times... Printed on quality paper with good inking the covers are in reality ... artist prints ! When collecting New Yorker covers one can do so by content, artist, year, theme, etc etc... with plenty of each to fill a wall or portfolio... Prices are normally based on condition, artist, condition, theme, condition, publishing year, condition... and condition... As most of the New Yorker covers where mailed folded (and or where folded by the owner to fit the back pocket or purse) those covers which have no center fold have a higher premium in any collection. Because of the gloss paper used and the richness of inks for most covers, age wear + use from handling are very important factors in pricing (see above value line for pricing factors)
With over 90 years of covers available, collecting New Yorker cover artwork is fun, exciting and well worth the time, as each year takes it's toll on remaining covers available in the market have consistently kept this field of commericial art rising in value..
