Eytan of Eytan's Designs has almost fifty years' experience designing, selling, buying, repairing, refashioning & appraising jewelry.  In January, 2019 we started the slow but satisfying process of listing Eytan's inventory on-line so that he can semi-retire and focus more on custom designs.  Please check back as we're listing new items every week -- all fine jewelry in a range of styles and all priced with an emphasis on fairness and realism!

The continuous ivy on this ring -- three leaves with curling tendrils -- was a very popular design for platinum diamond rings in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.  You'll find many variations on this theme and, laying aside the issue of quality, the differences come down to:  (a) ring width and thickness (i.e., weight); (b) airiness of scrollwork, which will have a direct impact on; (c) size and number of diamonds; (d) whether or not the design is framed with a top and bottom straight edge; and, (e) whether or not the face of the ring is flat or domed.

Our ring is airy and open, flat-faced, with a low diamond count, medium width no rims, and very heavy.  It's a nice example of a popular design, with coin edging throughout and neat interior backholing.

Eytan replaced all sixteen of the diamonds because small diamonds from this period were generally "single cuts" -- with 8 facets instead of the "full cut" or "brilliant cut" stones we use today, with 56 facets.  Single cuts can look a little lifeless, so replacing them with 16 bright and sparkly little brilliants gave the ring a real shot in the arm.  The new diamonds are all natural (i.e., earth-mined) and untreated; Eytan rates them VS1-2 clarity and G-H color.
