Antique Wood Salesman Sample or Doll Travel Steamer Trunk, 1869, Leather Handle

Eagle Bay Heirlooms is pleased to offer this fantastic find for your consideration.   A small steamer trunk made out of wood which is a varnished warm &  rich honey tone with brown/black metal support straps around the corners with nail heads.   A rich leather handle which is original (worn).  Missing a nail in the bracket attaching handle.  

This was either a Salesman's Sample Trunk or a Doll Steamer Trunk made by Barnard's Trunks.   The original label is inside which reads:  Barnard's Trunks, Bags and Baskets, 510 Main St. Worcester, MASS"

There are two compartments inside, upper and lower with a divided section.... the upper level dividing section made of cardboard, is held in place with two hooks...   a great place to hide all your secret love letters or photos...... ha  only kidding.....

The front brass plate is embossed as follows :   *PAT D MAR 69 & APR 77 *
As best I can decipher.... Made from March 1869 to April 1877....    A great collectible piece of history.   

Also, I have been using this to sit a lamp upon in my sun room until it finds a new howe.    It is a great side so may be used for many functions such as a side table, accent piece, storage box in any room or just a great conversation piece.

Condition:  Overall wear, slight stains, scuffs etc from age inside & out.  Missing some parts in the lock mechanism.   No KEY available.   Overall lovely antique shape with no odor.   Some slight corrosion of the metal parts (rust)  .... please feel free to write for additional photos or information.
