Antique 1896 J Gieve & Sons Royal Navy Metal Uniform Trunk & Key B C Greatorex

B C Greatorex was Lieutenant Benjamin Claude Greatorex of HMS Highflyer.

He was born in 1880 and joined the Royal Navy in 1894!

He got into a fight alongside fellow sub lieutenants in 1901 and got fined.

In 1902 he was made Lieutenant of HMS Highflyer.

Unfortunately he died at the age of 24 in 1904, just before Christmas due to an accident at Millbay Pier in Plymouth.

The box is in fabulous condition made by the renowned J Gieve & Sons in 1894. It opens and shuts well, the lock and key work fine.

It has a handle at the back for carrying.

A fabulous piece of a young man's history.

Also Cameron 9 The Sanctuary Morden is where officers lived from 1930 til 1995 so it's possible that the box later belonged to someone else in the military.
