The Prussian
Order of the Red Eagle (Roter Adlerorden) was awarded
to both soldiers & civilians to recognize valor on the field of battle, excellence and long and faithful service to the kingdom.
This is the Grand Cross Breast Star of the order. It is a gilt, eight-pointed breast star worn
on the left chest. It was typically
awarded to male members of the royal family, to members of the Order of the
Black Eagle, to "nobility" and to foreign royalty.
The swords
indicate distinction in wartime.
This is a beautiful replica of the badge. It weighs 2.8 oz. (78 grams) and measures 9 cm across. It has a pin and catch mechanism very similar to the originals and the workmanship is superb.
