These where sometimes worn in Vietnam by Recon and specialist units like S.O.G.
The black cotton boonie looks like a normal boonie hat but sewn into the inside of the crown is an orange rescue panel so when the recon team needed to be extracted you could reverse your hat so the helicopter crews could see you easily or the gunners could identify friend from foe.
This replica S.O.G. boonie hat is made from black cotton and has a shorter brim to give an increased field of vision compared to the standard issue boonie hat.
The S.O.G. boonie hat features:
- Black outer.
- Black inner with an orange rescue panel sewn into the inside of the crown.
- Short brim approximately 3.5 cm wide.
- Depth of hat is approximately 6.5 cm so it sits higher on the head to give better field of vision.
- Two ventilation eyelets on each side.
- 100% cotton.
